What is the Expo?

A World Expo 2020 is a large international exhibition that acts as a stage to showcase the technological, innovative and architectural achievements of nations. The World Expo is a stage for millions of countries to come together to share ideas, present their innovations to the world, encourage collaboration and for human ingenuity. A World Expo takes place over a span of 6 months.
Crystal Palace, Hyde Park in London hosted the first Expo in 1851. It was titled ‘Great Exhibition of the Works of Industry of all Nations’. The event brought together about 10,000 innovations from the industrial revolution. Approximately 6 million people visited it.
In 2015, the latest Expo was held in Milan. The theme for Expo 2015 was ‘Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life’ encompassing culture, innovation, creativity and traditions and how these are related to food and diet.

What is Expo 2020 Dubai?

In the year 2020, Dubai will host the grandest Expo to date. The theme for Expo 2020 Dubai is ‘Connecting Minds, Creating the Future’. The country will host hundreds of countries and companies that will explore possibilities in spheres of Opportunity, Mobility, and Sustainability. The aim is to create technology that is unique, pioneering and sustainable for the future.
Around 25 million people will be traveling to Dubai for the Expo 2020. 70% of these people will be from countries outside the UAE. People can visit pavilions of hundreds of countries in one place without traveling far and wide.

Dubai Expo 2020-Themes and Sub-Themes

An Expo is a catalyst for the transformation of the world, a place to share ideas and innovations and collectively contribute towards creating a better world for future generations. The theme of Expo 2020 is ‘Connecting Minds, Creating the Future’, which means to cooperate and collaborate and stimulate ideas that will establish what our tomorrow looks like. The three sub-themes of Opportunity, Mobility, and Sustainability effectively reflect the deeper meaning of the chosen theme. All the ideas and innovations in the Expo 2020 will be center around the theme and these sub-themes, integrating innovations for a better future.

Expo 2020- Location

Dubai is building a city within a city especially to host the Dubai Expo 2020. The city called ‘Dubai South’ covers an area of 438 hectares. The Expo 2020 location is close to the Al Maktoum Airport and is in the middle of Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
In the middle of the site lies the Al Wasl Plaza. which is well-connected to all the three districts that are based on the sub-themes of the Expo 2020. The Al Wasl Plaza is also connected to all the attractions at the site including the UAE Pavilion which is designed like a falcon in flight.

Expo 2020- Logo

The Expo 2020 logo is captivating yet conceptual making people speculate about what it actually stands for. The unique logo is inspired by a ring that was discovered at a 4000-year-old archaeological site in the Al Marmum area. At the unveiling ceremony of the logo, H.H. Sheikh Mohammed, Ruler of Dubai and Vice President of the UAE said ‘It represents our message to the world that our civilization has deep roots. We were and will always be a pot that gathers civilizations and a center for innovation.’ The message is a message to the people that the origins of UAE are centuries-old considering many people assume that the culture of the country is new.

The Expo 2020 commences on Tuesday, 20th October 2020 and ends on Saturday, 10th April 2021.

Directions to Expo 2020

The best way to reach the World Expo 2020 site is by the Dubai Metro. Route 2020, an extension of the Dubai Metro’s Red Line will drop you at the start point of Expo 2020 with great connectivity from different parts of Dubai. Furthermore, the Expo 2020 Metro station is set to be the biggest and most eco-friendly station in the Dubai Metro network. It will be capable of handling an incredible 46,000 passengers per hour.
